How the count is measured

Days are counted from local midnight to local midnight, so the answer is always a whole number and independent of the time of day. If the target date has already passed, the count switches to “days ago” using the same math. The tool also breaks the total into weeks, months, and hours remaining today.

Two people counting to the same date at the same UTC instant may see numbers that differ by a day if midnight lands on different UTC moments where they live.
